ABOUT THE ACTIVITY
Hellfire Pass is a part of the Burma Railway, which was built during World War II. The railway passed through thick jungle in Thailand and Burma, making construction very difficult. Many prisoners and local workers were forced to build it under harsh conditions.
They used metal tracks to lay the railway and built bridges over rivers and valleys. Many workers suffered from hunger, disease, and exhaustion. Some did not survive and were buried in cemeteries. The railway became known for its hardships, and today, memorials honour those who worked on it.
